Let’s make a difference together.
We are kind as children so why do we struggle so much as adults to spread the same kindness. We want to re-educate people on being kind and to show/tell them it’s okay to be kind and not receive anything in return. It is a selfless act but can change people’s life’s more then we know it.
What we know is that there are many positive effects of compassion and care, but there are certain social beliefs or stigmas within our communities around the giving and receiving of help and kindness.
Beliefs that impact the effective spread of love, happiness and support through the traditional means of community-helping-community.
So, we have set out with a mission to change the stance on those beliefs, leading by example and creating a platform where this change can be achieved, better support each other and educate the public about the benefits of kindness and how it can positively affect our mental health.
Our Project Mission
The One Thing Project is a vehicle created to help address mental health issues, educate people around the effects of social anxieties and how this can be solved or helped via kindness in people’s everyday life.
By reintroducing kindness into the people of the community's live's, we want to create a shift in the current mindsets about giving and support. Helping people feel comfortable and safe to open up about their day-to-day struggles and mental health issues.
Who we are?
The One Thing Project is a group of young professionals that have identified a certain set of social beliefs within our community and younger age groups around the giving and receiving of help and kindness. We understand these believes prevent the effective spread of love, happiness and support through a traditional community-helping-community structure.
So, we have set out with a mission to change the stance on those beliefs, leading by example and creating a platform where this change can be achieved and our community can better support each other in the battle against mental health issues.
Why?
We have been apart a range of small random act of kindness initiatives within the community over the past few years. During this time we have witnessed a positive change from the feedback received and understand not only the fulfilment it brought members involved but the pathways it has created for open conversation around mental health.
The Problem
So, we decided to formalise our idea, built a kindness community and started recruiting like-minded people to help spread our vision and start taking responsibility for our own community's future.
What we understand is, unfortunately there are strong underlying beliefs in our community that;
“It can be weird to be too nice to strangers”.
“People might get offended by offering help”.
“I don’t want my kind gesture to be taken the wrong way”.
“I want to help in other ways then donating”
These beliefs are actively inhibiting the full potential of community and peer-peer support that we can achieve.
Let’s make a difference together.
The One Thing Project is actively engaging people at the community face, leading by example in the way to changing these beliefs, building awareness, conducting fundraisers and activities to enable community members to be a part of the positive change.
We strive to acknowledge community members and businesses leading the way in spreading our vision, ensuring no act ever goes unnoticed. The project promotes the kindness that already exists in our community, supports each other and directs such support in a way it can be most effective in helping struggling people.
Let’s make a difference together.
All the founding members have been fortunate enough to grow up in this amazing area and have seen our community members and businesses draw together in times of need.
We know from experience there are so many others wanting to help people struggling with day-to-day issues but sometimes do not know where to start.
We are taking the step to direct that kindness, reignite those old school community values, take care of our neighbours and help address mental health through simple acts of kindness and support, alleviating day to day stresses wherever possible.
“Remember there’s no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end.”
